Front Stoop Gardens, LLC (“FSG”) is a woman-owned and operated ecological landscape design and gardening company, specializing in native plant species.  We provide landscape design and gardening services throughout New York State, with a primary focus in the Capital Region and greater Hudson Valley.

  • We are currently seeking a part-time year-round Garden Manager to oversee our Gardening Department. Front Stoop Gardens cares for a variety of gardens using solely ecological gardening practices.     FSG is looking to add a talented and passionate garden manager to our company. Currently, we are seeking a candidate for 32 hours per week, 5 days a week March through December, and 16 hours per week, 2-4 days a week January to February at a rate of $28/hr. There is potential opportunity for increased hours and professional growth as we continue to grow as a company. Our Gardening Season begins April 15 and runs through Thanksgiving. 

    The Garden Manager is the head of our Gardening Department who manages the garden crew and is the primary contact for our gardening clients. The Garden Manager is responsible for creating the gardening schedule, communicating with gardeners, clients, and FSG staff in other departments, as well as maintaining gardening tools and tool inventory. On occasion, the Garden Manager will also be responsible for installing new gardens for regular garden clients. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of and commitment to ecological practices and native plant species, an eye for detail, ability to work independently, dedication to quality service, ability to multitask with strong organizational skills, and demonstrate strong managerial and interpersonal skills.



    Responsibilities:

    Gardening Duties:

    • Garden consultations 

    • Onboarding of new gardening clients

    • Train new and seasoned gardeners on ecological gardening practices

    • Manage seasonal gardeners 

      • primary contact for all seasonal gardeners 

      • provide tools & supplies, on-site supervision, training and guidance as needed

    • Assist with hiring seasonal gardeners in Late Winter/Early Spring

    • Communications with garden clients (on-site and virtual communications)

    • Maintenance and care of gardening tools and equipment

    • Proposals, management and coordination of small to medium planting installations for regular gardening clients

    • Coordination with Nursery Manager for plant orders

    • Fill in with gardening services as needed

    Administrative Duties:

    • Monthly invoicing of gardening clients (Quickbooks)

    • Maintenance of timekeeping software for gardeners and garden notes (ClockShark) 

    • Follow up on gardening service request leads

    • Creation of Maintenance Proposals and Gardening Installation Proposals

      • Send out gardening service renewals (February)

    • Filing signed Proposals

    • Creating, organizing and maintaining client records

    • Scheduling gardeners and gardening clients (Google Calendar)

    • Email communication with clients’ gardening requests, plant orders, etc.

    Other duties as needed (winter duties & other):

    • Assist with additional administration duties 

    • Educating through workshops, demonstrations, classes, speaking engagements, and public outreach

    • Assist with Invasive Removal Program 

      • Identify and remove invasive species on gardening clients’ property as part of regular gardening services

      • Coordinate with Landscape Design department to follow up on Invasive Removal Proposals for non-gardening clients

      • Schedule and coordinate Invasive Removal as discussed with Landscape Design department

    • Assist with Holiday Decoration Sales

    • Fill in for Pop-Up Plant Sales





    Qualifications:

    • Drivers License and willingness to use personal car for occasional transportation

    • An interest in native plants and ecology

    • Horticultural background and expertise

      • Plant identification skills

      • Knowledge of traditional and ecological gardening practices

      • Basic understanding of environmental science, ecology, biology, plant science, horticulture, and/or other relevant subjects

    • Ability to maintain high level of professionalism and attention to detail as well as create a culture among others to do the same

    • Ability to successfully coordinate and maintain schedules

    • Strong interpersonal and management skills

    • Strong communication and logistical skills

    • Ability to think critically and problem solve

    • Ability to think and work independently

    • Willingness to learn and expand knowledge

    • Willing to do manual labor and able to lift 40lbs
